Mission
The mission of the Neuroscience Institute (NSI) at Loyola University Chicago, in partnership with the Research and Development Service of Hines VA Hospital, is to support basic, translational, and clinical research and training aimed at the elucidation of fundamental mechanisms underlying neurological trauma/disease, with the goal of developing effective therapeutic strategies to enhance patient care.

To accomplish our mission, the NSI is working to create a collaborative, integrated community in which basic and clinical neuroscientists can productively work together. The website of the Neuroscience Institute is our focal point for information relating to neuroscience activities on both the Loyola-Hines VA campuses. Opportunities exist for weekly seminars, translational neuroscience research forums, annual retreats, and related scientific meetings. Pre- and post-doctoral education and training opportunities in basic and translational neuroscience are available for graduate and medical students, as well as residents and postdoctoral fellows. Summer training opportunities are also available for undergraduate students wishing to explore neuroscience as a career. Mentorships involving junior clinical faculty with interests in research and established research scientists are being actively fostered.
