How can you confirm your diagnosis?

  • By demonstration of the presence of Bordetella pertussis, the etiological agent of whooping cough in patient's specimens.

    • Direct fluorescent antibody detection of Bordetella pertussis in a nasopharyngeal aspirate

    • Culture of per nasal swab for Bordetella pertussis on chocolate agar and/or Bordet - Gengou agar medium
