Presented to:

Ms. Hjalmarson's Fifth Grade Class
Longfellow Elementary School
Oak Park, IL
March 31, 2009

The class was currently learning the different systems in the body, so our presentation focused on the digestive system. We outlined the components of the digestive system and their function/importance in the digestion process. Additionally, we highlighted the importance of acids and bases in digestion, and provided experiments to show how we can measure/study acidity.

One demonstration involved using red cabbage juice as a pH indicator. The class was then provided time to carry out a small experiment to predict and measure the pH of common household items (orange juice, soap, etc).
