Loyola University Medical Education Network Dissection of the Posterior Abdominal Wall

Step 1
Clean the pancreas. Open the duodenum to find the duodenal papilla. Dissect where the common bile duct and pancreatic ducts enter the duodenum. Find the blood supply to these organs.

Step 2
Mobilize the kidneys and adrenals. Find the branches of the abdominal aorta and inferior vena cava.
Step 3
Clean the diaphragm and muscles of posterior abdominal wall. Dissect the branches of the lumbar plexus.
