Session Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  1. Identify the major fiscal elements of running a physician group practice and a large academic physician group practice
  2. Identify major differences between a small physician group practice and a large academic physician group practice
  3. Analyze considerations of margin and mission in a physician group practice and be able to explain the importance of "payer mix."
  4. Identify the missions of an academic medical center and the major structural elements of such an organization.
