Esophageal Disease

It is very difficult to recognize radiological findings with esophageal disease. The esophagus is in the posterior mediastinum. The following are useful radiological findings:

• Dilatation

  • Widening of mediastinum

  • Inlet to outlet shadow on right

  • Inhomogeneous cardiac density

• Air fluid level

• Thickening of tracheo-esophageal stripe

• Aspiration pneumonia
