Abnormal Finding
- Smoothness
- Ataxia: Movements are clumsy, and vary in their speed and direction (Cerebellar disease).
- Kinetic Tremor: A tremor appears toward the end of movement (Cerebellar disease).
- Accuracy
- Dysmetria (or past-pointing): Finger initially misses but finally reaches the target (Cerebellar disease).
- If inaccurate only with eyes closed, consider impaired position sense rather than cerebellum as the cause.
- Limbs with ataxin or dysmetria reflect an ipsilateral cerebellar (or tract) lesion.
