Definitions

Solitary pulmonary nodule is a single round or oval density of the lung with sharp margins, arbitrarily limited to lesions less than 6 cms in size. A Solitary pulmonary nodule of the lung is a frequently encountered problem. The old terminology is Coin lesion.. A Solitary pulmonary nodule is noted in the patient's chest x-ray. Hence, a Radiologist is usually the first one to bring it to our attention. The criteria for defining a lesion as a Solitary pulmonary nodule are:

• Size - Less than 3 cms
• Number - Single
• Margin - Sharp
• Shape - Round or Oval
