There is no controversy here, but most do not seem to have a good understanding. SCC is staged as limited and extensive. Limited refers to disease restricted to the thorax and could be covered by a single port of radiation therapy. If it cannot be covered by a single port of radiation therapy, then it is extensive. CT of the head, bone scan and bone marrow aspiration biopsy are routine in all cases of SCC.
