Case #3:

You have just begun call when you get a page from a nurse noting that “your” patient has a blood pressure of 90s over 50s. You look on your sheet and note the following:

Admission Dx: Dehydration/Gastroenteritis

Problems: Meds:
Hypothyroid Synthroid
HTN Atenolol
Hydrochlorothiazide
Lasix
IV: D5 ½ NS running at maintenance

 

“admitted today…soft admission...received a bolus in the ER and doing well….will likely go home in the morning. A little bit of renal failure…we think it is all because of dehydration.” NTD

The nurse also asks, “The patient's potassium is 3.0. Do you wanna give her anything?
