General

You should have learned the first two objectives under the Structure Radiology Course.

  1. Explain principles behind each imaging modality: Plain x-rays, CT, MRI, ultrasound, brain scan and angiogram
  2. Describe how normal tissue is represented in each imaging modality: Plain x-rays, CT, MRI, ultrasound, brain scan and contrast angiograms

Neuroradiology Objectives

Neuroanatomy (Structure Course): MS1

  1. Identify anatomical structures of the brain and spinal cord in plain films, CT and MR
  2. Identify vessels in cerebral angiograms and MR angiograms

Neuropathology (MHD Course): MS2

For each of the clinical neuropathologies listed below, you should be able to:

  1. Recognize abnormal findings in imaging studies
  2. Match pathological findings with image findings
  3. List pathological conditions that can produce a given abnormal image finding

Neurology clerkship: MS3

  1. Select the appropriate initial imaging procedure for a given clinical situation
  2. Formulate a differential based on the pattern of observed abnormal image findings
  3. Propose a final diagnosis based on the image findings and clinical setting

List of common clinical neurological pathologies:

  1. Intracranial hemorrhage
  2. CVA stroke
  3. Brain edema
  4. Hydrocephalus
  5. Brain tumors
  6. CNS infections
  7. Multiple sclerosis
  8. Spine problems
  9. Disc herniation / Spinal cord compression
  10. Spinal cord tumors

Method of Evaluation

MS1: Written on-line examination at the end of the Structure Course. You will be evaluated on the 1-4 objectives.
Passing grade 70% Pass/Fail

MS2: Written on-line examination at the end of the second year covering the objectives 5, 6 and 7. Questions will cover Neuroscience, GI tract, heart and lungs.
Passing grade 70% Pass/Fail

MS3:

Remediation

MS1 and MS2: Failure has to be remediated prior to progressing to the next level following SSOM guidelines.

MS3: Failure in each component of TCM has to be remediated as determined by each Course Director.

Failure in the radiology component of the written exam or noncompliance with participation in weekly cases would require an oral examination.
