Small cell carcinoma account for approximately 20-25% of all bronchogenic
carcinomas.

- While small cell carcinoma is found primarily in those between the ages of 50 to
70, it has accounted for up to 26% of lung cancers found in patients less than 50 years
old. One study claims that while it is unusual in patients under the age of 40, it is the
most common lung cancer histology in these patients. It accounts for 8.6% of lung cancer
diagnoses in patients over 70 years of age.
