I routinely send most of my best pieces to Histology and one piece for AFB and fungal cultures. If there is a possibility for lupus, I will send one good piece for immunofluorescent studies. Electronic microscopy will be requested only if there is aclinical suspicion or the H&E stain is suggestive of mesothelioma.
