Scenario:


An Evaporator Accident

The patient arrives at your hospital, a clean team transfer is performed, and the patient is brought to the REA. All clothing has been removed and he is covered with a clean sheet. A large bore IV has been started in his left antecubital vein. Surgical and medical histories are unremarkable. The patient denies any drug allergies. On physical examination, the patient is alert and oriented. There are first and second degree burns along the anterior and inner aspects of both lower extremities. A small amount of the abdomen is involved with first degree burns. The surface area of the burn is estimated at 20%.

  10. Transfer the patient to the burn unit
