Scenario:

An Embedded Particle

Your answer:
Proceed with a partial REA setup and notify only necessary services.

Correct answer.
Given that the contamination has been determined to be localized to a specific region and that the patient is stable and ambulatory, you have the option of performing a limited response. This is particularly useful should this occur during a busy time in the emergency room or during the early hours of the morning when staff availability is limited.

It is still wise to gown and glove, although double layers are probably not needed. The buffer zone is still needed to help prevent staff from freely entering and leaving the REA. Good documentation of levels of contamination and dosimetry for the staff is also advisable should legal actions be taken.

If time and resources permit, a full response is useful to help raise awareness in the staff. The relatively minor case can be used as a "live drill" to help identify areas that may be a problem in more serious cases.
