effective however would probably be another washing of the wound,
possibly using hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide causes foaming while

the wound. Phisohex, Dakin's solution, and betadine are all good
choices as well. The first choice for the cleaning of any
contaminated wound is the agent that would normally be used to
clean the area anyway.
An X-Ray of the hand might be useful if a metallic foreign body is suspected after examining the wound. This helps to localize the fragment and may help in guiding the removal.
