Medical Students In order to manage these patients you
need to have acquired the following concepts and factual information about
Diabetes Mellitus..
- Pathogenesis of symptoms
- Classification
- Acute and chronic complication
- Role of Diet and exercise
- Insulin and oral anti diabetic agents
- Concept of "tight" control and monitoring control
You should read prior to tackling these cases
- Diabetes chapter in either Cecil or Harrison's text book
- Mahler RJ, Ader MC. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Update on
Diagnosis, Pathophysiology and Treatment. J Clinical Endocrinology and
Metabolism 84:1165-1171, 1999. (This reading updates revised classification
and diagnostic criteria, as well as new drugs for therapy)
