The suboccipital triangle is bounded by rectus capitis posterior major (1), obliquus capitis inferioris (2), and obliquus capitis superioris (3). The rectus capitis posterior minor (4) is also seen. The greater occipital nerve (5) passes inferior to the obliquus capitis inferioris muscle. Palpate the arch of CI in the triangle and clean the vertebral artery which is just superior to the arch.
