Dissection of the Nasal Cavity

  1. Carefully remove the conchae and nasal mucosa on the lateral wall of the nasal cavity.

  2. As seen in this dissection, this procedure frequently opens the maxillary sinus since the wall is thin. The levator veli palatini muscle lies just deep to the mucosa extending to the soft palate. The torus tubarius and salpingopharyngeal fold will help orient you. The tensor veli palatini muscle lies just anterior and lateral to the levator veli palatini muscle. You will have to remove some fat to expose its strong tendon which hooks around the hamulus of the medial pterygoid plate.
