Dissection of the Shoulder Joint

  1. The next step is to expose the joint capsule anteriorly by cutting the tendon of the subscapularis muscle and reflecting it laterally being careful not to open the joint capsule as shown the video.

  2. As you reflect the subscapularis tendon, be careful not to cut the tendon of the long of biceps brachii where it pierces the capsule and is held in the intertubercular groove by the transverse ligament of the humerus.

  3. Now, pull out the cut ends of the tendons of the rotator cuff muscles demonstrates how they form a "cuff" around the joint as seen in this dissection, which shows the teres minor m., infraspinatus m., supraspinatus m., subscapularis m., and the coracoacromial ligament.
